About the QGEA

Digital and Information Communication Technology (ICT) are present in everything we do, from our internal and external services to behind-the-scenes processes, from the information we handle to the supporting applications and technologies we use. The Queensland Government Enterprise Architecture (QGEA) provides you with frameworks, tools, and guidance to streamline investment and decision making in agency and Whole-of-Government environments.

What is the QGEA?

The Queensland Government Enterprise Architecture (QGEA) is a collection of Queensland Government publications such as digital and ICT strategies, frameworks, policies and associated enterprise architecture documents that guide agency digital and ICT investments to improve their compatibility and cost-effectiveness.

It also serves as the primary channel for the Queensland Government Customer and Digital Group (QGCDG) to communicate strategy, policy and guidance to our agencies and influence the state-wide digital agenda.

The QGCDG appreciates contributions from Queensland Government agencies that share their best practices, learnings and resources; this collaboration helps make the QGEA a rich source of knowledge for the entire sector.

While associated with technology, the QGEA's coverage is broad, and incorporates government service delivery, business strategy, and organisational design. This coverage addresses:

  • alignment and compliance between business objectives and digital strategy.
  • relevance and applicability of enterprise information to all levels of organisation leadership.

How does it help Queenslanders?

The QGEA provides the direction, policy and guidance to support the development of better services for Queenslanders, and ensure more effective and efficient use of digital and ICT resources across government.

What are the components of the QGEA?

The QGEA is underpinned by a set of foundation principles that support the development and implementation of the QGEA. These principles describe the values, beliefs and behaviours for the management of information and for investment decision-making for ICT across government and are meant to be enduring and not require frequent change.

Frameworks

The QGEA provides classification frameworks for business services, business processes, information holdings, applications, and technologies.

The Digital and ICT strategic planning framework provides a range of processes and techniques to define future digital and ICT business opportunities and strengthen the development of digital and ICT strategic plans, investment proposals and associated governance practices. This framework ultimately helps agencies understand and prioritise their digital needs to agency business direction.
